From bicycles to the latest zero-emission electric vehicles
We have a growing army of beautifully thick-thighed bicycle couriers and encourage cycle pick-ups wherever possible. In a city with an average traffic speed no greater than a horse and cart, nimbleness is everything. We're also rolling out electric vans and scooters. This doesn't just keep down emissions in the city (we live here too!), it keeps down costs to you, our customer.
Investing in renewable energy projects - small and medium hydro power stations in China
China's exploding industrial development isn't being to kind on the environment, but we're working to plant some green shoots. As investors in The CarbonNeutral Company one of the projects we're helping to support is the Guizhou Hydro Power Project. This group of small and medium hydro power stations has already generated emission reductions of 190,000 CO2 tonnes.
Investing in the Kotmar Waste Heat Recovery Project, India
Hot water in the Indian state of Karnataka comes from electricity generated from burning nasty fossil fuels. The Selco Solar Water Heating Systems Project uses rooftop solar collectors to supply hot water to households, schools and other community buildings. It's simple, renewable and changes lives. That's the kind of project we like. Investing in the Kotmar Waste Heat Recovery Project, India Waste heat from a steel plant near Kotmar in the Indian central state of Chhattisgarh used to vent straight into the atmosphere. Not anymore. The Kotmar Waste Heat Recovery Project does exactly what it says on the tin. Waste heat now produces steam which drives a turbine which in turn generates electricity, not just for the plant itself but for the local grid too.
Unique software hammers down time, distance and fuel use
He was born 'Advanced Information Based Allocation' system, but we christened him 'Larry'. He's at the heart of everything we do, organising our fleet with his enormous brain. He knows exactly where every courier is and keeps abreast of weather and traffic conditions. This means he can allocate the best courier for every job with supersonic efficiency. Anyway, thanks to Larry we're now the fastest courier company in Europe with average pick up times that are much quicker than the competition! But the best thing about this lightening service? More efficient allocation means less fuel consumption, which means less pollution.
